  • Fine, Louis XV style tric-trac table (Item 979)
      In solid, carved walnut having cabriole legs ending in pied de biche (deer feet) and reversable top, one side (shown) with marquetry inlaid board for checkers, the other in green felt suitable for card playing. Removing the top reveals an inset, marquetry-inlaid backgammon board. The whole delicately carved. Late 18th or early 19th century from Nimes, France.
  • Louis XVI-style Mahogany and Brass-inlaid Game Table (Item 1098)
      With removable rectangular top above hinged surface opening to reveal slide-out baize game board surface with French inscriptions and hidden well with miniature roulette wheel and compartments with dominoes and game pieces, all of which remove for backgammon surface below, on turned and reeded supports with caster feet.

      Brass inlaid is lifting and needs securing on top. Removable top opens to baize surface, some light abrasions and surface grime, interior underneath with game piece compartments and wheel which have minor nicks, light abrasions. Legs have repairs, one appears a bit wobbly. Has some game pieces, probably not complete.

  • Rare, French, Regence period, gilt-bronze mounted game table (tric-trac table) (Item 1068)
      Having rosewood veneers; with a reversible, gilt, embossed leather top, the reverse inlaid with an ebony and ivory chess board; the inside opening to reveal a recessed backgammon surface; having one drawer and two original candleholders. Circa 1725.

      In solid, carved walnut with elegantly shaped cabriole legs terminating in pied de biche, gilt, tooled, and embossed leather top, four drawers (one per side), and pull-out drink holders at each corner. Circa 1715-1727.

      In solid mahogany and mahogany veneers with brass trim. Gold-embossed leather writing surface reverses to reveal felt card-playing surface. Inside reveals original ebony and ivory inlaid backgammon board. Tapered, fluted legs ending in brass casters. Two drawers hold matching white and green-tinted ivory playing pieces.   • Fine, Venetian, Rococo style, painted and parcel-gilded coiffeuse (Item 873)
      In sculpted and blue-painted wood with gold accents, the lower part of arbalette form with a single, central drawer, top in faux marble, the legs of cabriole form; the upper part having a mirror with original mercury glass supported by two arms; the whole being of curvilinear form with a floral and shell motif. Circa 1850.
  • Very fine, Spanish, Neoclassical, flame mahogany and parcel-gilt coiffeuse (Item 824)
      The whole resting upon four acanthus-leaf decorated feet; the upper compartment with looking glass of large dimensions between two Corinthian columns resting upon a single drawer; The lower compartment having three drawers, with the top drawer opening to reveal a writing compartment; Circa 1820.

      In solid carved walnut, the front and side panels finely sculpted with foliate rinceaux design, the lower apron with palmettes, the whole resting on claw feet. Circa 1580.

      In solid walnut elaborately carved in deep relief, the top having molded and mask carved edges centering an armorial cartouche flanked by dragons; the facade having a gilt iron escutcheon surrounded by dragons and winged figures; with deeply carved base molding on ball and claw feet, distinctive dovetails, and carved side panels set with carrying handles.   • Italian, Renaissance period cassone (Item 1173)
      In solid carved walnut, vigorously sculpted with leaves, vines and other vegetation; the façade featuring framed allegorical figures and flanked by caryatids, the gadrooned lid with tabernacle featuring sliding door which opens to reveal secret compartment, the bottom apron adorned with garlands of fruit, the whole resting upon elongated claw feet. Circa: 1550. Tuscany.

      In ebonized rosewood inset with etched ivory panels depicting frolicking cherubim, having two cabinet doors which open to reveal eight interior drawers above two additional drawers, the whole resting upon four bun feet.

      In solid, carved walnut, having four elaborately sculpted doors, each one with an allegorical figure centered within a floral medallion representing the four seasons, also having a central drawer with embracing cherubs flanked by winged putti.

      The whole vigorously carved with foliate rinceaux design, vegetation and birds and resting on bun feet. Circa 1610-1630.

      In solid, walnut, exhuberantly carved with grape vines; having original locks, hinges, escutcheon plates, and keys. From Bourgogne, France, circa 1610.

      Brightly painted in ochre, red and black with Nut in profile to the right, wearing a tightly-fitting dress, broad collar and bracelets, a fillet across her forehead with a frontal lotus flower, sun disc above her head, lotus buds and flowers sprouting on either side of her feet and a bunch before her torso.

      As a divinity responsible for renewing the sun each day by swallowing the setting sun, Ra, each evening and giving birth to him by her womb in the morning, Nut was regarded as suitable imagery for the underside of the lid of sarcophagi, as this associated the deceased with re-enacting the journey of the Ra between heaven and earth.       Painted with a warrior mounted upon a horse, the handles tightly curled to resemble the volutes on Ionic columns. The colors used in art of this period inspired the painted frescoes of Pompeii two centuries later.

      In solid, carved walnut, the rectangular top above a conforming case with a breakfronted dentil molded edge, above two molded frieze drawers centered and flanked by putti heads over a pair of paneled doors centered by rayed ovals within with scroll carved border between stiles carved with standing putto figures and pendent foliage, raised on a conforming plinth.

      The hinged top fitted with a ratchet mechanism above a leather-lined writing surface and one drawer fitted with a sliding leather-lined surface and a secret inkwell drawer, flanked by candle slides, raised on tapering fluted legs ending in sabots.

  • Louis XVI-style Mahogany and Brass-inlaid Game Table (Item 1098)
      With removable rectangular top above hinged surface opening to reveal slide-out baize game board surface with French inscriptions and hidden well with miniature roulette wheel and compartments with dominoes and game pieces, all of which remove for backgammon surface below, on turned and reeded supports with caster feet.

      Brass inlaid is lifting and needs securing on top. Removable top opens to baize surface, some light abrasions and surface grime, interior underneath with game piece compartments and wheel which have minor nicks, light abrasions. Legs have repairs, one appears a bit wobbly. Has some game pieces, probably not complete.

      In solid, carved mahogany, curvilinear in form, with Neoclassical elements including cornucopia and paterae (circular or oval ornament resembling a dish, often decorated with leaves and petals. Commonly seen in a frieze in architecture or on a corner block in furniture), the legs of umbrella shape ending in casters. Circa 1835.
  • Exceptional, French, Neoclassical period commode (Item 1065)
      Of demi-lune form having acajou moucheté (plum pudding mahogany) veneers and original hand-beveled marble top; having three central drawers, each one framed with bronze ornament and two functioning side compartments with hinged doors. Circa 1780.

      François Reizell was a German ébéniste who established his workshop on the faubourg Saint-Antoine. In 1770 he moved to the rue des Saints-Pères. His principal client was the prince de Condé for whom he supplied pieces at the Palais Bourbon and for the country houses at Chantilly and Villegenis.
