  • Apulian, red-figured, terra cotta lekanis (two-handled, ancient Greek bowl) (Item 1143)
      The cover painted with a naked male figure sitting and holding a spear and a seated woman on opposite sides, the two separated by palmette friezes, the rim of the lid decorated with a repeating, wave pattern.

      Circa: 340 B.C.E.
  • Pair of French, Faience, covered jars (pilgrim flasks) (Item 1170)
      Each one depicting cherubs blowing horns and riding fantastical beasts on a blue background. The sides flanked by rams head masks. Nevers, France. 19th century.

  • Large, Important, French cache pot (Item 1167)
      Manufactured by the royal porcelain maker, Sèvres, in painted and gilded porcelain with gilt bronze mounts for the last French King, Louis Phillippe (r. 1830-1848).

      The interior bears two stamps, the first having the King's monogram (LP) and the date (1844), and the other bearing the mark for "Château des tuileries", the royal residence where the piece was to be displayed.

  • Ancient Canosan volute krater of large dimension (Item 1106)
      Painted with a warrior mounted upon a horse, the handles tightly curled to resemble the volutes on Ionic columns. The colors used in art of this period inspired the painted frescoes of Pompeii two centuries later.

      With classical Greek figures in terra-cotta on a painted black background. A bell krater was an ancient Greek vessel sometimes used for diluting wine with water.

      Of unusually large size, tin-glazed and gadrooned with plant motifs. The center adorned with a bird in profile, the reverse decorated with concentric lines. From Spain, either Manises, Paterna or Triana. Circa 1550.

  • Faunesse With Child And Bacchus, Late 19th century bronze group Signed Clodion (Item 1189)
      Large French bronze sculpture representing a faunesse (female faun) holding her baby on her knees, and Bacchus playing at their feet, a well known model by Clodion. The faun and her child are girded with vine leaves and the child holds out a cup to Bacchus. In exchange, Bacchus lying on a bed of vine branches gives him a bunch of grapes. The thyrsus, symbol of Bacchus, lies on the bed of foliage. All the attributes of Bacchus are present in this magnificent composition by Clodion, whose quality of carving is matched only by the depth of its patina. A cherry red marble base supports this remarkable mythological group.

      Of rectangular form, in solid walnut, having carved floret-framed paneled sides and the façade with carvings of maps and telescopes, the whole resting atop four paw feet.

      The helmet in the form of a peacock, incised with floral details, with inscription-filled cartouches around the rim, a sun-boss to the forehead; the shield with a central sun-formed boss with facial features, with inscriptions-filled cartouches around the rim.

  • Large Megalodon tooth (Item 1120)
      Megalodon (Carcharocles megalodon), meaning "big tooth", is an extinct species of shark that lived approximately 23 to 3.6 million years ago, during the Early Miocene to the end of the Pliocene. This specimen is of rare size and largely intact.

      6th century AD. Accompanied by the results of Oxford thermoluminescence test #C205g92, dated November 17, 2005, stating that the results are consistant with the suggested period of manufacture.

  • Egyptian, Ptolemaic Period, polychrome-painted wood sarcophagus panel (Item 1108)
      Brightly painted in ochre, red and black with Nut in profile to the right, wearing a tightly-fitting dress, broad collar and bracelets, a fillet across her forehead with a frontal lotus flower, sun disc above her head, lotus buds and flowers sprouting on either side of her feet and a bunch before her torso.

      As a divinity responsible for renewing the sun each day by swallowing the setting sun, Ra, each evening and giving birth to him by her womb in the morning, Nut was regarded as suitable imagery for the underside of the lid of sarcophagi, as this associated the deceased with re-enacting the journey of the Ra between heaven and earth. For further, see I. Shaw and P. Nicholson, British Museum Dictionary of Ancient Egypt, London, 1995, pp.207-208.

  • Fine, Louis XV style tric-trac table (Item 979)
      In solid, carved walnut having cabriole legs ending in pied de biche (deer feet) and reversable top, one side (shown) with marquetry inlaid board for checkers, the other in green felt suitable for card playing. Removing the top reveals an inset, marquetry-inlaid backgammon board. The whole delicately carved. Late 18th or early 19th century from Nimes, France.
  • Louis XVI-style Mahogany and Brass-inlaid Game Table (Item 1098)
      With removable rectangular top above hinged surface opening to reveal slide-out baize game board surface with French inscriptions and hidden well with miniature roulette wheel and compartments with dominoes and game pieces, all of which remove for backgammon surface below, on turned and reeded supports with caster feet.

      Brass inlaid is lifting and needs securing on top. Removable top opens to baize surface, some light abrasions and surface grime, interior underneath with game piece compartments and wheel which have minor nicks, light abrasions. Legs have repairs, one appears a bit wobbly. Has some game pieces, probably not complete.

      Having rosewood veneers; with a reversible, gilt, embossed leather top, the reverse inlaid with an ebony and ivory chess board; the inside opening to reveal a recessed backgammon surface; having one drawer and two original candleholders. Circa 1725.

      In solid walnut with casters and multiple inlaid playing surfaces for backgammon, checkers, chess, and a roulette wheel. 19th century from Paris.

      In solid mahogany and mahogany veneers with brass trim. Gold-embossed leather writing surface reverses to reveal felt card-playing surface.       The whole vigorously carved with foliate rinceaux design, vegetation and birds and resting on bun feet. Circa 1610-1630.

  • Italian Renaissance Credenza (Item 1080)
      In solid, carved walnut, the rectangular top above a conforming case with a breakfronted dentil molded edge, above two molded frieze drawers centered and flanked by putti heads over a pair of paneled doors centered by rayed ovals within with scroll carved border between stiles carved with standing putto figures and pendent foliage, raised on a conforming plinth.

      Mid-16th century.

      In solid, carved oak. The front composed of three panels carved in Gothic architectural style with arches, ribs, rosettes, and columns; the two side doors carved with large "linen folds"; having two inside shelves.

      In very good condition with excellent patina; circa 1480 with some 19th century modifications.

      In solid carved walnut, vigorously sculpted with leaves, vines and other vegetation; the façade featuring framed allegorical figures and flanked by caryatids, the gadrooned lid with tabernacle featuring sliding door which opens to reveal secret compartment, the bottom apron adorned with garlands of fruit, the whole resting upon elongated claw feet. Circa: 1550. Tuscany.
  • Large, Rennaisance period Hispano-Mauresque ceramic plate (Item 1104)
      Of unusually large size, tin-glazed and gadrooned with plant motifs. The center adorned with a bird in profile, the reverse decorated with concentric lines. From Spain, either Manises, Paterna or Triana. Circa 1550.
  • Italian Renaissance Credenza (Item 1080)
      In solid, carved walnut, the rectangular top above a conforming case with a breakfronted dentil molded edge, above two molded frieze drawers centered and flanked by putti heads over a pair of paneled doors centered by rayed ovals within with scroll carved border between stiles carved with standing putto figures and pendent foliage, raised on a conforming plinth.

      The hinged top fitted with a ratchet mechanism above a leather-lined writing surface and one drawer fitted with a sliding leather-lined surface and a secret inkwell drawer, flanked by candle slides, raised on tapering fluted legs ending in sabots.

      Last quarter of the 18th century. In the Manner of David Roentgen.
  • Louis XVI-style Mahogany and Brass-inlaid Game Table (Item 1098)
      With removable rectangular top above hinged surface opening to reveal slide-out baize game board surface with French inscriptions and hidden well with miniature roulette wheel and compartments with dominoes and game pieces, all of which remove for backgammon surface below, on turned and reeded supports with caster feet.

      Brass inlaid is lifting and needs securing on top. Removable top opens to baize surface, some light abrasions and surface grime, interior underneath with game piece compartments and wheel which have minor nicks, light abrasions. Legs have repairs, one appears a bit wobbly. Has some game pieces, probably not complete.

      François Reizell was a German ébéniste who established his workshop on the faubourg Saint-Antoine. In 1770 he moved to the rue des Saints-Pères.
