Pair of fine, French, Louis XV-XVI Transition period console tables
In solid carved giltwood, each having an upper cartouche pierced with roses and lower cartouche centered with corbeille a fleurs (basket of flowers), the whole vigorously carved in guilloche (repeating, interlocking circles) motif, having volutes (scrolls) and acanthus leaves. With Breche marble tops in beige with rose veining. Circa 1765.

The whole resting upon four acanthus-leaf decorated feet; the upper compartment with looking glass of large dimensions between two Corinthian columns resting upon a single drawer; The lower compartment having three drawers, with the top drawer opening to reveal a writing compartment; Circa 1820.

In mahogany with mahogany, pearwood, and ebony veneers. Top chess/checkers surface reverses to reveal leather writing surface. Inside reveals inlaid backgammon surface. With drawers at each side to hold gaming pieces. Late 18th or early 19th century.
