| The Rocaille style is the most opulent, intentionally excessive version of the Louis XV form. It is characterized by exaggerated curves and extensive carving, sculpting, and ornamentation, most commonly including scrolls, seashells (fauna) and acanthus leaves (flora). In English-speaking countries, the Rocaille form is also known by the name "Rococo," (sometimes spelld "Roccoco") which is the Italian word for the style. |
