Ancient Canosan volute krater of large dimension
Painted with a warrior mounted upon a horse, the handles tightly curled to resemble the volutes on Ionic columns. The colors used in art of this period inspired the painted frescoes of Pompeii two centuries later.
From Apulia, circa 320 BC (now Italy, but then Greece).

With classical Greek figures in terra-cotta on a painted black background. A bell krater was an ancient Greek vessel sometimes used for diluting wine with water.

Japanese, gilt wood Buddha figure
Seated in dhyanasana on a lotus base set on a tiered plinth, the hands held upward in the lap, the eyes downcast in a meditative pose under tightly curled hair and a domed ushisha, dressed in layered robes left open at the chest, al before a solid madela.

Sculpted in solid Carrara marble as a large shell supported by a child satyr and a putto upon a naturalistic base with integral foliate and shell-carved circular base. Circa 1850.
Provenance: From the estate of Dr. and Mrs. Meyer Naide, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. By repute, acquired from the Philadelphia home of Pearl S. Buck.

In sculpted and blue-painted wood with gold accents, the lower part of arbalette form with a single, central drawer, top in faux marble, the legs of cabriole form; the upper part having a mirror with original mercury glass supported by two arms; the whole being of curvilinear form with a floral and shell motif. Circa 1850.

The pair of paneled doors decorated with antheniennes on pedestals surrounded by polychrome Vitruvian scrolled vines and feathers within a carved egg and dart and bead carved frame; the overdoor panel with similar decoration within a grapevine carved door surround with a scrolled leaf border. Probably Provence. Late 18th century.
